San Antonio Sweeps Cleveland, Wins Fourth Championship

The San Antonio Spurs have swept the Cleveland Cavaliers to become NBA Champions for the fourth time in nine seasons. Drive and Dish extends congratulations to the Spurs. They play the game the right way. They're a dynasty. We love them.

In the picture to the right, Tim Duncan (left) is holding the Larry O'Brien trophy, and Tony Parker is holding the series MVP award. Drive and Dish used to dislike Parker tremendously. However, he's really matured as a player. Early in his career he was a turnover prone shoot first showboat who just happened to start at point guard for the best team in the league. Now he's a top notch NBA point guard, who breaks down defenders, protects the ball and makes good decisions. We have become fans of his.

By the way, when the game was tied with five minutes to go, it was Manu Ginobili who took the game over. In the last five and a half minutes, Ginobili put on a show that rivals anything Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson or Larry Bird ever did in the Finals. Although Parker was named as MVP, it was Ginobili who made the difference in the final minutes of this championship deciding game.

As a loyal Northeast Ohio guy and hard core Cleveland fan to the core (even though I live in Wrigleyville now), I'm not that upset with this series. This isn't like "the shot" or "the drive" or any of the other heartbreakes that ripped our hearts out in the past.

This series was just the beginning of something big for Bron and the Cavs. That makes this totally different from the long history of Cleveland teams choking in the big game. With LBJ, the Cavs will be back many times. This felt more like a trial run. Now LBJ's feet are wet. He's only 22. Now he's been to the finals. Now he's got to learn how to win. If he does, the next 8-10 years should belong to LeBron and the Cavs.

David Stern and the NBA executives have got to be sick of seeing smaller market teams from the middle of the country in the Finals year after year. The NBA is all about the East Coast and the Lakers.

Tony Parker was right on when he said (to paraphrase) that the Spurs would be huge if they played in New York, as opposed to San Antonio. Rather than the national media complaining about how boring the Spurs are, they would likely exhalt the Spurs as one of the greatest teams and dynasties of all time (and certainly not boring) if they were the New York Spurs.

Cheif Wahoo, the Cavs have a long, long way to go before they are a threat to win a championship. I dont care how young Lebron James is, he wont win anything until they get a team around him.

Benny,

Nice obscure Benny Da Bull reference. I remember when Benny Da Bull got busted for selling weed. If Benny Da Bull is your dealer, I'm guessing that you are Eddie Robinson, Eddy Curry or Jamaal Crawford.
