"Lieutenant Colonel Greg Gadson Is Giants' Inspirational Co-Captain"

By Trashtalk Superstar

Normally I don't like Mike Lupica and would never think of linking to one of his articles on Drive and Dish, but this piece in yesterday's New York Daily News is a must read.

It details the life of Lieutenant Colonel Greg Gadson, who has become an inspiration to the Super Bowl bound New York Giants.

Bravo, Trashtalk Superstar for posting this enthralling tale. The All-American man galvanizing America's team in the NFL.

And kudos to Mike Lupica, who comes out with productive journalism every once and a while.

Mark,

The story of Lt. Col. Gadson is, at once, heart breaking and inspirational.

But what's so valuable about this article is what Lt. Col. Gadson told the Giants about how his old West Point teammates came to his need and how he said that "when a team finds a way to do things greater than they thought they could do, that they couldn't have done individually, that a bond is formed that can live forever."

The military is all about teamwork and forming a bond among your "brothers." And anyone who's played high school football knows that those kinds of bonds can exist at that level of the game. But it's almost unheard of for a bond like that exist among professional athletes (and grown men).

Also, what Lt. Col Gadson said about the power that sports can have in people's lives is invaluable. Personally, I know that sports have had a bigger impact on my life than almost anything else.

Without question, my participation in sports (especially in college) has helped mold me into who I am today.

It's easy to get caught up in media hype about sports, but the real beauty (and the true purpose) of sports lies far from the world of Sports Center, internet message boards and sports talk radio. The true beauty (and true purpose) of sports lies in how sports can teach you how rise to challenges, push yourself to become the best that you can be, to truly believe in yourself (but at the same time, believe in something bigger than yourself), to make yourself do things that you didn't think it was possible for you to do, etc.

Basically, sports have the power to transform lives for the better.

And that's what it's all about.

Roy>Jesus is a genious.
If we all could share the wisdom this blog participant has, the world would trully be a better place.
Children would swing higher on their swingsets, every dog would wag its tail, all politicians would hug eachother, women would feel happy about their inner and outer beauty, there would be fresh drinkable water flowing in every river stream, there would be no economic recession or housing crisis, lions would play with instead of eat hyenas, random strangers would hand out bars of chocolate on the street to make others happy, every child would pick candy off the tree, no power outages would ever occur, and Bucknell would cut down the nets to end the Final Four ...

Well, Bucknell would "cut down the nets to end the Final Four" .... if they played Bill $elfish and Kansas in the championship game.

Except that no Bill $elfish coached team will ever make it to the Final Four. Ever. Because he can't coach.

Roidy Droidy, thanks for the classy compliment. You're a class guy, even though you apparently do "roids" (like Clemson and Maryland's football teams do).

I hate to do this to you, since you're so classy, but I've got to disagree with one of your points. In a TRUE perfect scenario, like the kind you described, Bucknell would not cut down the nets at the Final Four every year.

Roy and the Heels would.

Really, it's good to finally see a person writing about this challenge in a clear and open fashion. You really should put yourself out there more so that more people can see your perspective.. I want to see you become more well-known, because you certainly have something to provide. As an aside, is your format custom designed or did you download it from someplace? A theme just like yours with a handful of small modifications would actually make my blog stand out. Tell me where you got your template when you get the moment.
