North Carolina Beats Clemson in Double Overtime

North Carolina came back from being 15 points down late in the second half to beat Clemson in double overtime, 103-93.

Tyler Hansbrough and Wayne Ellington were the catalysts for the Tar Heels. Hansbrough went off for 39 points, 13 of which came in the two overtime periods. Ellington finished with 28 points and accounted for the basket that sealed the win for North Carolina: a difficult driving shot in the lane that came in the final minute of the second overtime.

North Carolina remains undefeated (53-0) in home games against Clemson.

And with this win, the Tar Heels set a new NCAA record for consecutive home wins against a single opponent, besting Princeton's 52 straight home victories over Brown from 1929-2002.

Good Lord, was I nervous about tonight's game.

After the crushing loss to Dook at the Dean Dome the other night, the prospect of getting knocked off at home by freakin' Clemson -- which would have made it two straight losses in the Dean Smith Center -- was just too much to take.

Besides, we've NEVER, EVER lost to Clemson at home.

How humiliating it would have been to have lost back to back home games to Puke and Clemson, and to have let Clemson steal their FIRST win in Chapel Hill ... EVER!

I mean, Clemson couldn't even get us in the Dean Dome during the Matt Doherty years. And we were abysmal back then. But as bad as we were in those darkest of days, we still managed to protect the fort against them.

So they sure as hell didn't deserve to walk into the Dean Dome and steal one from us tonight.

Thank God we pulled this one out.

But I think I aged about 10 years just watching this game.

If we'd have lost, I think I would've had to leave the country for a while, just to duck all the Puke fans here in the triangle and get my mind right.

But we got it done tonight.

This helps make up for the Dook loss.

Franklin Street, here I come!

Man, y'all didn't thank the refs was finna let North Carolina get beat at home did y'all?

Those refs was in tha tank for ol'Roy and UNC.

They ain't finna let Oliver Purnell walk into the Dean Dome and beat Roy, Hansbrough and the UNC hype machine.

This thing was in the bag from the get go.

Ain't no doubt about it.

And y'all know exactly what I'm talkin' bout.

One more thing: did y'all see that fine sista in the Clemson shirt sitting behind the Clemson bench?

I was like, Damn! Ol' girl was holdin' it down for a minute.

For the second time this year, Roy and the Heels were able to mount a successful come from behind win which prevented us from suffering what would have been a humiliating loss at the hands of Clemson.

Unfortunately, my great, great, granddaddy and the other valiant Generals of the Confederacy were unable to mount a similar come from behind victory over General Sherman and his mercenary band of oppressors from the North.

But at least John Wilkes Booth got a clean shot at Lincoln's head (which he, mercifully, connected on), not unlike those two wide open three pointers that Danny Green hit to pull the Heels even with Clemson.

My eyes welled with tears upon the conclusion of tonight's spellbinding, roller coaster victory.

I have no doubt that Dean's eyes did too.

The atmosphere of pride and resilience that was on display at the Dean Smith Center tonight exemplified what an honor and privilege it is to be part of the UNC extended family.

Thank God we beat Clemson. What a colossal injustice it would have been for our extended Heels family to have fallen at the hands of the rag tag bunch which wears the popsicle orange colored uniform of that most pedestrian of agricultural and engineering schools from the (ahem...regressive, backward) Palmetto state.

Thank you Roy.

Thank you Tyler.

Thank you Danny.

Thank you Wayne.

And most of all, thank you Dean.

Go Heels.

Man, North Carolina just keeps playin' around with these scrubby ass ACC teams. They keep stringing Clemson along just long enough to keep things interesting. Same thing they did with Georgia Tech.

C'mon now guys!

Quit playin' with these teams.

North Carolina is like that Slovenian stripper that I get lap dances from over at Pole Katz.

She keeps playin' like she's really into me. I mean, she grinds on me like nobody's business. Hell, she'll even let me cheat on the "hands off" rule every now and then.

But when I try to get her digits and get her to see me outside tha club, she always puts me off.

I'm like: C'mon now, when you gonna show a brotha some love!?!

Anyway, North Carolina is a bigger tease than Svetlana over at Pole Katz.

But what do I care?

I still got my buzz on from tha club.

I mean, what else is a brotha gonna do on a Sunday night when the weather's 10 below zero?

Man, I was gettin' my drank on up in the New Dating Game, over on Stony Island in Calumet Heights.

That's tha hot new Sunday night club on tha SOUTH SIDE!

One more thing about the North Carolina, Clemson game: I saw the fine sista in the Clemson tee shirt too. She was sitting a row up, just behind the Clemson bench.

I think she might have been Oliver Purnell's daughter.

But that's O.K.

What else was I supposed to look at? Oliver Purnell's raggedy old ass?

C'mon now.

That sista was holdin' it down in that little, tight fitting Clemson shirt.

That's good stuff right there.

Like Chuck Daly would say, "awfully good."

Things are looking great for Duke, indeed.

And the Tar Holes keep proving what paper tigers they really are.

Sorry, but if you have trouble putting Clemson away at home, you don't deserve to be ranked in the top 5, or even top 10 (and I don't care that they didn't have Ty Lawson).

I can't wait to see the look on Hansbrough's face when the Holes make their customary early exit from the Tournament (can you say one and done?).
