Missouri Suspends Five Players

Days after Senior point guard Stefhon Hannah was severely injured in a nightclub altercation, Missouri basketball coach Mike Anderson has suspended five players.

Suspended are the injured Hannah (who returned home to Chicago to recover from surgery related to the injuries that he sustained in the brawl), guard Jason Horton and forwards Marshall Brown, Darryl Butterfield and Leo Lyons.

By indefinitely suspending five players who either start or play critical backup roles, Mike Anderson is essentially waving a white flag (at least until the suspended players return).

That's really a strong move. But it may be a necessary one.

Mike Anderson is showing that he's definitely in control. And that's important at Mizzou, considering the mess that Anderson inherited from the free wheeling Quin Snyder regime.

Mike Anderson is a desciple of Nolan Richardson. Don't tell me how he is "in control."

Coach Bartow,

Mike Anderson may not have had the kind of control that he wanted. After all, the five suspended players were violating Anderson's curfew rules.

But this is the kind of incident that could have been swept under the rug (and probably would have been at many programs).

Mike Anderson took over a program that had spiraled out of control. Look, I liked Quinn Snyder when he was at Duke and when he first went to Missouri. Although I didn't quite see Quin being a good fit for Colombia, MO, I thought he'd do great things at Mizzou.

But he ran sort of a renegade program. His players were out of control. His assistant coaches were out of control.

Worse yet, Snyder didn't conduct himself in a manner becoming of a college head coach (and leader of young men).

Neither did the University's Chancellor (and neither did the Chancellor's wife who was, allegedly, getting her swerve on with of a couple of Snyder's players -- most notably Ricky Clemons).

There was a TOTAL lack of institutional control.

Mike Anderson inherited that mess. And he inherited players who were accustomed to the free wheeling atmosphere that had permeated during Quin Snyder's tenure.

Anderson had to take a stand.

He did.

Say what you will about Anderson's mentor, Nolan Richardson. But Mike Anderson is doing what he's got to do, considering the situation.

And he appears to be trying to change the culture of Missouri basketball.

Bruce Weber should have acted in a similar manner toward the players who were involved (even if only as accessories) in Jamar Smith's DUI/leaving the scene of an accident/failure to report serious accident/failure to seek medical attention for comatose teammate/possible attempted cover up incident. At the very least, Chester Frazier (whom Jamar Smith consulted to 1.-determine whether or not Jamar had actually killed teammate/passenger Brian Carlwell 2.- help figure out what to do with what they thought was Carlwell's dead body 3.-figure out what to do next) should have been suspended.

If Weber had been more authoritative last year during the Jamar Smith fiasco, maybe he wouldn't be stuck dealing with the discipline and attitude problems that his team has exhibited this year.

Quinny the Pooh was a piss poor basketball coach to begin with.

And he looked like a gay prostitute.

But to top it off, he was a coke snorting, co-ed banging, girlfriend stealing, adultery committing party boy.

Rat Face always says that he's not a coach, he's a leader of men.

Well, he did a crappy job of "leading" Quinny Pooh (not to mention other stoner/junkie/cokehead Dukies like Laettner, Cherrokee Parks, Greg Newton and J.J. Red Dick).

Rat Face is a leader of young men, alright. He leads them straight into the gutter.

Your blatant rage and hate for Duke is reaching a boiling point here at D&D, Ol' Roy.

It's okay to dislike a certain team.

It's completely acceptable to make a compelling argument on why you think your team is better.

But when someone such as yourself of your ilk comes around and continues to vulgarize our commentary, it's time to change.

Case in point, your consistent and tiresome reference to Mike Krzyzewski as "Rat face."

Not only does this lessen your credibility with other intelligent posters and readers, but it also calls into question your integrity.

As one of the proprietors of this board, this is your last opportunity to clean up your act. Enough with the childish behavior.

I respect Carolina people more than you would know.

But your thoughts are not only offense to Duke fans, but to fans looking for intelligent discussion alike.

If you can fix your filthy mouth, I suggest you take your act elsewhere.

Mark Buckets,

A few points:

1.) "Rat Face" is the name by which fans of ACC programs (other than Dook) refer to the coach of your favorite team.

I didn't make the name up. Heels fans, Maryland fans and even NC St. fans (redneck hicks that they are) started saying it at about the same time.

Nobody in America likes your team or your coach. You guys are just like Notre Dame and the Patriots.
There's a hard core base of Dook fans, but the rest of the world hates y'all.

2.) My thoughts aren't an offense to "fans looking for intelligent discussion" (although you're right that they're an offense to Dook fans). My thoughts ARE, in fact, fairly intelligent. They're just anti-Dook.

3.) I don't know where you get the idea that I've got a "filthy mouth." I don't say bad words on here. I'm a Carolina fan: we're too classy for that.

That's why I said that the Leader of Men did a "crappy" job leading Quinny Pooh. Last time I checked, "crappy" wasn't a filthy word. It's a substitute for a more vulgar word. And the word "crap" passes the FCC censors. That other word doesn't.

If I'd said what I actually wanted to say, then maybe you'd have a point.

4.) Finally, this may be nitpicking, but here goes: you said "(if) you can fix your dirty mouth, I suggest you take your act elsewhere."

I don't know what that's supposed to mean.

It doesn't make sense.

I think you meant to say "if you CAN'T fix your dirty mouth..."

That would make sense. But it leads us back to the fact that I DON'T actually have a dirty mouth (at least not when I post on here).

Using actual bad words wouldn't be classy.

You've got be kidding me. Your asseration that your mouth isn't filth is beyond reproach.

In reference to your Rat Face comment. I realize the moniker "Rat Face" wasn't coined by you. That would take too much effort on your part. I was merely pointing out that it was unecessary and out of line.

Banging co-eds? Adultry committing? a GAY PROSTITUTE?

I don't know what you consider to be vulgar, but that takes the cake.

So, while you claim to have made intelligent comments in the past - still searching - your pompous attitude is something that Trashtalk Superstar and myself are fed up with.

Everything Roy>jesus said about Quinny the Pooh is right on.

But that's okay. The coaching thingy didn't work out for Quin. But he's got a budding career ahead of him as a singer/dancer.

Maybe if he went on American Idol, he could breathe life back into their sagging ratings.

Check out Quin singing "Eye of the Tiger":

Oh yeah!

But if the singing/dancing thing doesn't work out, Quinny Pooh can always take Roy>Jesus' advice ..... and work as a gay prostitute.

Mark Buckets,

"Adultery", "bang", "gay" and "prostitute" don't qualify as bad/filthy words.

Adultery and prostitution are vices. And being gay isn't exactly my cup o' tea (not to mention that the Bible condemns it), but different strokes for different folks -- not that there's anything wrong with that. And banging has several meanings. One of them means sex. Oooh, as if sex is such a taboo word (you used that word in your last blog post).

But none of those words qualify as BAD WORDS.

Jayhawk Phil,

Thanks for having my back. You're pretty classy for a Kansas fan.

And that video you posted is unbelievable.

I can't believe that's real.

But it is.

What was he thinking!?!

I guess that's what all those drugs will do to you.

Or maybe Quinny was just doing what the Leader of Men taught him. Could that be how Coach "Relationships" -- old Rat Face himself -- motivates the boys back at fake Princeton U (Puke)?

Roy>Jesus: you have every right to dislike a program and criticize their approach. However, you belittle yourself when you compare former members of the program to gay prostitutes. Nobody takes your comments seriously.

The reason Roy>Jesus has such a hatred for a program like Duke is because they are consistently at the top. You love to hate them because they have a strong program, good players, and a tremendous following. You feel threatened by Duke, insecure about the prospects of UNC being second best.

Duke Fans: Take Roy>Jesus vulgar comments as a compliment. It obvious your strength and success has gotten under Tar Heel Fans´s skin.

prost97,

Puke hasn't exactly been consistently at the top lately. But we won a championship 3 years ago.

And I like our chances better than I like Puke's chances this year, despite the fact that they're still ranked 1 point higher than we are.

What Heels fans can't stand is the the pompous attitude that Puke's head coach, players, students, alumni and fans exhibit.

People associated with the University of North Carolina are much classier than Dookies.

"What Heels fans can't stand is the the pompous attitude that Puke's head coach, players, students, alumni and fans exhibit."
"Quinny Pooh*
"Rat-Face"

Who is the pompous one here? You brag about UNC and mock Duke.

It´s time to look in the mirror Roy>Jesus. In fact, I don´t believe Roy>Jesus can call him/her/itself a true Tar Heel. UNC doesn´t grant admission to degenerates.

Give credit to Missouri in their 66-62 loss last night to Nebraska. Sure, it was Nebraska, but fielding a team of 6 scholarship players to go along with two walk-ons and come within four of beating ANY Big 12 program is commendable.

Things won't get any easier for Missouri, however. They are near the bottom of the league standings with games against the Kansas schools forthcoming.

In spite of a gutsy effort, this was a loss that will seriously damage Mizzou's NCAA hopes. In fact, I'd go as far as saying that this loss will have crippled their tournament hopes.

Understandable so, Mike Anderson was emotionally drained after the game. After all, his pressing style of basketball will wear on even the best athletes. On a night where Missouri was without their go-to men, this result was the best they could have hoped for.
